Tincture

The tincture is a very traditional, proven drug preparation (e.g. valerian tincture, myrrh tincture). As extraction liquid diluted alcohol (= ethanol 70%) is usually used at the ratio of 1:5 or 1:10, which means that 100 grams of drug is extracted with 500ml and 1 litre of diluted alcohol. After extraction, the drug is filtered off and pressed out as a rule. Nevertheless, some of the alcohol remains in the drug, so that the tincture has a DEV from 1:7 to 1:9 or 1:4 to 1:4.5. Thus, a tincture is a "diluted" fluid extract (DEV 1:1 to 1:2) in terms of ingredient concentration.
